Omega-3s have been proven to demonstrate their anti-inflammatory, immune, cardiovascular benefits, for brain health, mood, concentration, etc. However, not all omega-3s are equal. There are 2 points to distinguish:
- The form
Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids. It can be found in several forms: natural triglycerides, free fatty acids, ethyl esters, re-esterified triglycerides and phospholipids. Triglycerides (TG) are the natural form of omega-3 while ethyl esters (EE) are synthesized (also more easily oxidizable, which can be harmful to your health!).
This is why we chose a triglyceride form: better assimilation, better quality, more natural! The NeurOmega product is made up of at least 90% fish oil in TG form. The product is also distilled and molecularly filtered to ensure purity and maximize the removal of metals, pesticides, PCBs and other contaminants.
Also, through omega-3, there are several molecules that are part of this family, but the main ones are alpha linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Only ALA is essential since it is necessary for the natural and physiological synthesis of the others, although the conversion rate is very low (FADS1-2 enzymes and elongases convert at best between 8 and 21%). This is why the majority of vegan people are deficient in omega-3. Animal sources are naturally more concentrated in EPA and DHA and that is why we chose them.
- The composition
Among the components of omega-3, we find eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), among others. Although they share certain points in common, they seem to have some particularities.
EPA seems to help much more with anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular support, but also helps with emotional support, skin health, and maintaining normal cholesterol levels.
DHA makes up 80% of the brain and is in reduced levels in people with ADHD. It also helps with good eye health and maintaining good triglyceride levels as well as good blood pressure. It is also important in good health in pregnant women and fetal-uterine-child development. It helps with memory, mild memory problems and concentration in young people. At 1.5g of DHA per day, it appears to help with depression.
The NeurOmega product is especially more concentrated in DHA in order to optimize brain health
The NeurOmega product also contains lipase to promote digestibility and mixed tocopherols (vitamin E – antioxidant) to improve product stability.
