NeuEra Mag

Magnesium is one of the most deficient minerals in North America. Several factors promote this deficiency: Cereal refining, chronic stress, overconsumption of sugar, certain health disorders (e.g. diabetes), consumption of laxatives, etc.

Here are some potential signs of magnesium deficiency: aggression, anxiety, confusion, disorientation, irritability, pain, tremors, headaches, apathy, psychosis, memory problems, etc.

It is involved in 800 metabolic functions, whether it is energy production, stress and mood management, helping with concentration and physical and mental performance, bone health, blood pressure, blood sugar, good muscle functioning (including cardiac), etc.

Already just these needs make this mineral a very popular supplement. Beyond these, magnesium has attracted more and more attention in recent years for the management of certain health disorders such as concussion, but also for anxiety disorders (e.g. phobias, post-stress disorder). -traumatic) of which several cases relapse.

Among the forms of magnesium, we find magnesium-L-Threonate (MgT) (magnesium + L-Threonate which is a metabolite of vitamin C). This has the advantage of crossing the blood-brain barrier and increasing the levels of magnesium in the cerebrospinal fluid (around 15%, a figure that seems small, but has a significant effect). The absorption rate of the molecule is approximately 60-80% and approximately 8% of the molecule is elemental magnesium.

MgT showed several improvements compared to:

  • Synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus (synaptic connections in this memory-rich region of the brain decline with age)
  • Learning and memory (in rats, 18% in the short term and 100% in the long term compared to 54% in the long term for magnesium citrate),
  • The retention of the extinction of the fear memory (without improving, altering or erasing the original fear from the memory),
  • Increased NMDA receptor signaling (which plays an important role in promoting neuronal plasticity and synaptic density, the structural foundations of memory)
  • The expression of BDNF (neurotrophic factor from the brain, growth factors close to Nerve Growth Factor (NGF)),
  • The density of the presynaptic point (the more numerous and dense the synaptic buttons are, the more this makes the electrochemical signal more powerful and helps support the memory created)
  • Synaptic plasticity in the prefrontal cortex (not in the basolateral amygdala).
  • Spatial working memory (even short-term in rats)
  • MgT is therefore an optimal form for brain health and performance in addition to having the rest of the overall benefits of magnesium thanks to its high level of absorption!
