Where our first module made us explore and refine our “movement vocabulary”, module 2 teaches us a little more about the notion of control. Many of those who are adept at physical performance do so naturally and often have difficulty explaining how they do it. When we seek advice very often we can be told the “way” to do it, if we are lucky we will have progressions to get there, but rarely will we have an understanding of how and why.

“Attention deficit or tension deficit?”
It limits our ability to transfer knowledge to other movements or other sports!
In this module on How to Master Tension, we'll dive into some concepts that go beyond just training protocol. It is important to understand the factors that can influence the intensity of stress in our movements and movements. Concepts such as the bases of support, the manipulation of the center of mass and the understanding of the different levers on the transfer of force complement our process of acquiring new movements. It allows us to understand how to make the exercises easier or more difficult, but also to perceive the ways in which we too often manipulate the exercises to our advantage in order to make them easier or more accessible.
The most successful people are often the ones with the best compensation strategies (or just ways to cheat moves)!
At the start of the module, I also introduce the concepts of research, creativity and exploration. In a training universe, whether indoors or outdoors, in the sphere of rehabilitation as much in recreational or performance environments, we become very mechanical / protocol: do it this way, do your periodization in a very structured way to optimize your results, eat according to this philosophy to lose weight, etc.
We then leave aside the whole approach of play, curiosity, research and connection to how our body moves and reacts within our practice! Vital parts of many approaches to physical and psychological wellness and healing constantly redirect us to connecting to the body, "embodying", "incorporating" our experience. The body-mind approach have you ever heard of it? Unless you've lived under a rock for the past 50 years, I tell myself you must have an idea! So there is not “one” approach, but rather one way of approaching our practice. For example, a bodybuilder may very well do it in a way that helps him make the connection!
No more discussions! Getting back to the heart of the matter, our ability to create or sustain tension is often quite limited. We have the ability to produce tension in very specific amplitudes, but what happens when we have to produce tension outside of that “comfort” zone? Usually, this is where the problems come in: stretching, straining, tearing, twitching, sprains ... So what would be the interesting thing to do? Develop more control, i.e. have the ability to control tension over greater range of motion? Why not! In this module, you will have the opportunity to revisit traditional movements with very specific variations, but also, you will be able to discover movements that are a little more “funky” (Salt Bae squat? Salada split?) With the objective of allowing you to develop an extraordinary ability to adapt!
Bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance. Come join me in module 2 to deepen your knowledge of the Architecture of Movement!
